The Firm's History and Ethos
Both Geoffrey Stroud and Brian Stitson are local men, who are well aware of the particular problems faced in Plymouth. They were both educated in Plymouth, Geoffrey at Plymouth College and Brian at Sutton High School.
Geoffrey read law at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, and underwent his legal training at the Guildford College of Law, and thereafter in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, under the supervision of the County Coroner for Huntingdon. He subsequently returned to Plymouth in 1974, where he joined the practice then run by Tom Savery, becoming a partner in the firm in 1977.
Brian Stitson joined Tom Savery’s practice on leaving school, and subsequently qualified as a Solicitor through the Chester College of Law, and became a partner in the firm in 1980.
The Stroud Stitson Partnership is a small and intimate practice, and the partners and staff work very closely together with their clients, to ensure that clients feel that they have a personal service and are valued. As a result, our clients have continuity of contact with someone that they are used to dealing with, and our clients are not passed from one member of staff to another depending upon the type of problems they encounter, as can happen in larger practices.
Both partners are committed to the firm serving its clients and acting at all times in their clients’ best interests without fear or favour from anyone. They do not, as some firms of Solicitors now do, pay referral fees to third parties for work to be passed to them. They both take the view that clients pay increased legal charges, as the cost of the referral has to be passed on to the client who is referred to those firms, and that such payments prejudice the impartiality of the advice that clients are entitled to be given.`
